Crusader Kings 2 Offer Vassalization
Click to expand. Click to shrink. To be fair, why would they? Germanics would already have Scandinavia or Brittania; Slavs and Romuva would already have Wendish or Russia; Finnics would already have Scandinavia or Russia; Tengri would already have Tartaria, their nomad realms, or Carpathia; Muslims would already have Arabian or Persian; Zoroastrian and Zun would already have Persian; Dharmics would already have India; Aztecs have their own; and nobody cares about West Africa. If you want to imitate the Ottomans, you can form K-Anatolia/Rum and K-Greece, then declare a custom empire. Multiple empire titles aren't really worth having in actual gameplay. Also, there's a giant cross on the Byz flag, which doesn't make much sense when other religions take over. So I started playing an Irish game for old times sake/nostalgia (it has been about a year since I got the game and thus spent a lot of time in December playing Tutorial Island). This time I am playing as Domnall Ua Neill Naoigallaich, Earl of Oriel in the 15 Sept.
He is descended from the legendary (but historical) High King Niall of the Nine Hostages (which translates into Naoigallaich). So I just am able to form the Kingdom of Ireland with him as the Pope calls for a Crusade on Jerusalem.
This means I can't offer vassalization to the rest of the island. I need to save up some money and replenish troops so I sit out. Christianity is losing badly. Then, a miracle happens, and no, it is not the discovery of the 'true cross' (which is what happened in real life, Google it).
The Doge of the Serene Republic of Pisa, who also has the highest score, captures the Fatimid Sultan in battle effectively winning the whole Crusade in one fell swoop and becoming the Doge of the Serene Republic of Pisa and Jerusalem. That was the moment I realized I needed to AAR this game. I will still continue the other one in my sig, but I have an interesting new idea of how to do this one. Way it sounds, I like it. Because it makes playing smaller, more fractured locations easier in sense you can oppose massive blobs coming in your way, yet you can't start blobbing yourself with having everyone else gear against you. You can no longer eat smaller counts piece-by-piece, yet at the same time, those counts can't start offensive war out of nowhere. It helps that coalition are, apparently, not made via marriage so you are no longer limited by how many kids you managed to marry to someone. Also, devs states down the thread that infamy is applied to tittle/nation, not to character.

So you can't abuse it by doing a lot of shit, then dying and your heir is now scott free. Nope, infamy carries over so your heir needs to deal with that.

Idiots.I hope they implement more character legacy stuff, like Infamy, so you can't just 'reset' stuff. At the moment it's too easy to deal with rebelling vassals by imprisoning them, beating up the few who rebel, getting tyranny and dying, now your heir has all opposition in prison and suffers no ill-consequences.Despite being kind, charitable and just, your new character proceeds to act exactly the same as previous king, who was cruel, greedy and arbitrary.CK2 is really too easy to fall into 'nations, not characters' mentality, hopefully more focus is put on characters and creating legacy. A string of good kings should help you to transition between rulers. I slipped into that in my norse Britannia/ Roman Empire. The Empire was a solid defined nation state, with clear borders, clear unifying factors in norse culture and religion spreading across the land, a strong Imperial Army. The Crown had absolute authority, and anything above a count was something I had the right to appoint for merely a single life's reign.
There was literally no shortage of potential succesors. And me at the top. With my rule pretty much impossible to challenge, and a situation like that. Why not think in terms of playing a nation, which just so happens to be ruled by me?

What's that saying about pride coming before a. Something? The Dark Ages might be drawing to a close, but Europe is still in turmoil. Petty lords vie against beleaguered kings who struggle to assert control over their fragmented realms. The Pope calls for a Crusade to protect the Christians in the Holy Land even as he refuses to relinquish control over the investiture of bishops - and their riches. Now is the time for greatness.
Expand your demesne and secure the future of your dynasty. Fill your coffers, appoint vassals, root out traitors and heretics, introduce laws and interact with hundreds of nobles, each with their own agenda.A good lord will always need friends to support him. But beware, as loyal vassals can quickly turn to bitter rivals, and some might not be as reliable as they seem.
